Vitalise – going beyond respite

Vitalise is national charity dedicated to providing accessible respite breaks in a holiday environment for people with disabilities and carers. The charity operates three accessible UK centres in Chigwell in Essex, Southampton and Southport.

Each centre provides 24-hour on-call care from experienced nursing and care staff and the personal support and companionship of residential volunteers. Our guests enjoy a relaxing break in a non-institutional, holiday environment, with a daily programme of excursions, activities and entertainment laid on.

About Jubilee Lodge
Vitalise Jubilee Lodge in Chigwell, is located in a woodland setting close to Epping Forest. The centre has 26 single and five twin rooms, with capacity for a total of 36 guests. Facilities include a licensed bar, a sun lounge, gardens and a courtyard with ornamental pond. Vitalise Jubilee Lodge’s guests regularly go on excursions to the attractions of London, Cambridge and Southend, as well as shopping trips to Lakeside and Bluewater. Regular evening entertainment includes live music, karaoke and quiz nights.

What makes Vitalise different
For thousands of people with disabilities and carers each year, Vitalise is a lifeline. Each year we provide around 5,000 weeks of accessible, affordable breaks for people in need of respite.

But what’s unique about Vitalise is that we provide freedom and choice as well. We enable people with disabilities to take time out from their daily routine and enjoy an energising change of scene. Carefully selected activities and excursions, designed to stimulate and inspire, enable our guests to regain their vitality and confidence. Carers also benefit from what we do. The temporary relief from caring that Vitalise provides helps carers restore their ability to cope and reconnect with their loved ones.

Supporting families coping with Alzheimer’s and dementia
In addition to supporting people with physical disabilities, Vitalise also provides bespoke Alzheimer’s Weeks, which are devoted exclusively to couples coping with Alzheimer’s and dementia in their daily lives. The aim of these breaks is to provide an opportunity for such couples to spend quality time together – a place where they can rediscover a loving connection and shed the burdensome labels of carer and cared for, if only for a few days.

Affordable breaks for all
Vitalise is determined that nobody should have to miss out on the opportunity to take a Vitalise break for financial reasons, so we subsidise the cost of each break we provide through our own fundraising efforts. In addition, we provide additional discretionary funding through our Joan Brander Memorial Fund, enabling people in particular financial hardship to take breaks with us.
