We Are Age UK Essex

Age UK Essex are a local charity devoted to helping older people live fulfilling lives.

Age will change each of our lives in many unknown ways and none of us know exactly when we will begin to feel old. It might be when cleaning your own home becomes too much of a chore, illness makes it hard for you to enjoy your favourite hobby or when the death of a loved-one leaves you feeling lonely. It can creep up on us at anytime and that’s why our network of support services are so important – we believe everyone should be able to enjoy a full and happy later life.

We are proud to be a brand partner of the national Age UK charity. While Age UK spearhead key campaign work and raise awareness about the issues surrounding aging, we concentrate on delivering vital services and support in the local community. We currently provide services in over 220 towns and villages across Essex and last year we supported 60,000 older people.

What we do

Age UK Essex offers a wide range of free services to help ease the worries of growing old.

Our Information and Advice line connects people with the help they need while our Advocacy service help older people understand the choices they have and ensure their views and wishes are clearly understood.

To help keep minds and bodies active, our range of Befriending services reach out to people who feel lonely or isolated with weekly phone calls, visits or accompanied walks.

For those recently diagnosed with dementia, our Dementia Connections programme operates in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society and offers the chance to try new activities and regain confidence.

We run a number of practical services too which help older people live independently. Home Help offers assistance with household chores and grocery shopping and our toenail cutting clinics operate weekly across the county to help keep older people mobile.

We also offer a Sitting service which offers valuable respite to carers.

Can you help?

We’d love you to join us and help support older people in Essex. There are lots of ways you can get involved from taking part in a fundraising event to volunteering your time.

Fundraising is vital for our charity and last year hundreds of people walk, ran, cycled, sang, knitted, packed bags and had fun to help us raise thousands of pounds. Our website has a full list of our fundraising activities but drop us a line if you would like to take on a challenge of your own for Age UK Essex.

Our dedicated volunteers are a key part of our charity and they take on various roles across the organisation from becoming befrienders to being digital champions and helping us spread the word about our work. Take a look at our website for current volunteering opportunities.

We need to raise £500,000 a year to keep our services going so every penny really does count.
