WANT TO VOLUNTEER? MID ESSEX HOSPITAL SERVICES NHS FOUNDATION TRUST provided for WhereIsTheCare

VOLUNTEERING AT MEHT

Introduction
At Mid-Essex Hospitals Trust we are seeking volunteers to help us to improve our patient experience. We are currently looking to recruit mealtime companions and dementia volunteers. There are many benefits that can be gained by volunteering such as: gaining a reference, experience for personal statements which can be used for future job or medical school applications and gaining that feel-good factor which comes with helping patients and assisting staff at MEHT.
Volunteering would suit anyone who has some spare time available and those people considering a career in healthcare as it is a perfect way to find if working in a hospital is for you.

Volunteering
We currently have over 200 active volunteers with us and 400 registered volunteers, and we are always looking for more. The Trust is currently supported by a number of charities and organisations including Friends of Broomfield, Hospital Radio, Support 4 Sight and Friends of Braintree Community Hospital.
We are currently looking for volunteers in our Care of the Elderly wards to support at mealtimes and to give patients meaningful activities which will help to relieve boredom and any anxiety that they may have. Meaningful activities help to trigger past memories which patients may have since lost. As a mealtime companion you will encourage and assist in feeding patients while also engaging in conversation in order to make mealtimes not just eating but also a social event to make patients feel comfortable and at home.
There are many other wards and departments available to volunteer in which we can provide details of during your application.

Application
After completing an application form which can be found on our website at www.meht.nhs.uk you will be asked to attend an interview followed by health and DBS (formerly CRB) check. You will then undertake volunteer training and upon completion of this you will be registered as a qualified volunteer at MEHT.
