FOUR MONTHS JAIL FOR OLD DEANERY CARE HOME CARERS, BRAINTREE – Feb 2016
The devastated family were in Chelmsford Criminal Court 25.02.16 to hear the sentence of 3 carers who finally pled guilty to common assault of 84 year old Joan suffering from paralysation from a stroke, other medical conditions and dementia in the Old Deanery Care Home. Finally, quite rightly being jailed for their actions caught on camera by Panorama. WhereIsTheCare and representatives of the brave carer whistleblowers that came forward to reported this abuse, watched as they were led from the dock. Judge Lynch reduced the sentence from 6 to 4 months because of previously changed pleas to guilty. She said that the care was not acceptable, not as professional carers, not as human beings. That the public are entitled to safe and professional care in this country, that they were a disgrace. Please Note: this case has come to court because of carers who spoke up but were not listened to by any authority and who had to resort to justice by reporting this abuse to Compassion in Care charity and previous carer workers, who in turn enabled the Panorama undercover investigation. This should not be how justice works in this country. Our thoughts at WhereIsTheCare are with the family. Some common sense and justice prevailed today for all elderly vulnerable people and their families. Unfortunately the care home in question has not been held to account. Please speak up, come forward to us with your stories and experiences. Together we ‘can’ influence change.
